I grew up on a farm spending most of my time playing outside and building forts all around the woods by my house. I got involved into survival by attending a class by Ziggy, who was at an old SAR EX teaching a survival class, in my first year attending. It built a fire for me to expand my knowledge and skills, which I have taken to bring back to search and rescue to better equip searchers, for equipment and knowledge to better serves those who are lost. I have pushed myself to spend over a week outside in December with just a tarp and equipment that I carried in to work and improve my skills.
